We Are Born into Spiritual Darkness

When we are in spiritual darkness, the seed is cast by God on the path where The Satan snatches it away from us.

The Scriptures

Romans 5:12-15, Genesis 3:1-7

The Spiritual Awakening

A spiritual awakening is an act of The Holy Spirit, a newfound awareness of the existence of God. A spiritual awakening can be gradual or rapid.

God will use whatever method of awakening He chooses. It can be your friends, a movie, a billboard, social media, your children, the mountains, a river; anything that God has created through mankind, or created Himself, is available for Him to use to get your attention.

But you WILL be awoken.

What you do with the stimulus God originates just for you is up to you. You have the choice to pursue God and His stimulus, or you can choose to reject it.

Should you choose to accept the stimulus of God, you may even make a decision to follow Jesus Christ and start attending a Church.

But as the great singer/songwriter/evangelist of the 70’s and 80’s Keith Green said:

“Going to church does not make you a Christian. No more than going to McDonald’s makes you a hamburger.”

I love that saying, but only in the full knowledge of my heroes journey.

If the seed is cast into the rocks, there will be no foundation, no cornerstone for you to hold onto to withstand the trials The Satan will place before you.

Most will fade away under the barrage of trials and not get to the next stage of the heroes journey of faith.

Cultural Christianity – The Comfort of Shaping God to Your World

Sadly, this is where most church-going Christians sit on their journey of faith without even knowing that this is where they are. Rather than allowing God to shape our culture, we allow The Satan to shape God according to our cultural world.

The Satan is the great deceiver and he will do everything he can to see that you stay in this spiritual death spiral.

You may be very active in your church. You may volunteer in great causes. You may lead bible studies. You may even be a Pastor of a local church or even an Evangelical/Charismatic leader with YouTube and other large Social Media followings.

But if you are not sold out to Jesus in everything you are and everything you have as a human being, you have not made it to The Kingdom of God.

In Matthew 13:24-30, Jesus told a story about what He knew would become of the Church Age after His death and resurrection. Tares (tares are weeds that look identical to wheat right up until harvest) would be sown within the wheat. They will look like wheat, but will not bear the fruit of the harvest as the wheat will do.

Jesus explained this parable also in Matthew 13:36-43.

For those that make it to the purple zone in the heroes journey, the meaning of the entire 13th Chapter of Matthew’s gospel is abundantly clear. It is also clear why the principles of this chapter are rarely taught from the pulpit today.

Most preachers are focused on tickling the ears (2Timothy 4:3) of their parishioners. Challenging teachings that ask attendees to abandon their cultural Christianity will threaten their very existence.

Herein lies the great paradox of what true Christianity is.

The more you think you know, the less you will ever know.

The forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden was on the tree of knowledge, not the tree of life.

To be fruitful in the Kingdom of God you must abandon all your human knowledge and bow to God’s superior knowledge by eating from the tree of life.

Jesus referred to this in The Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 6:22-23 KJV when He stated that “thine eye be single”, meaning that it only sees the tree of life. The Greek word translated as “single” is haplous which means properly folded together as in the plaiting of hair. So we are to be woven together with God as one, so that all we see is Him.

Born Again, the Elixir of True Christianity

It is also very sad that the vast majority of Christians believe that emotionally saying “the sinner’s prayer” and baptism is your ticket to eternal life.

Jesus did not leave this watered-down contemporary version of being “born again” as a ticket to Heaven open to us.

In the third chapter of John’s gospel, one of the most important conversations in the bible took place.

Nicodemus was one of the premier teachers of The Law in all Israel. He was esteemed by his knowledge of Scripture and its application to life as a Jew. As a member of the Sanhedrin, he had privilege and position. Nicodemus came to Jesus under the cover of darkness, not wanting to be recognized in his conversation with Jesus.

Nicodemus commenced the conversation with out and out flattery, thinking he could butter-up Jesus (John 3:2). But Jesus was well aware of the tactics of Nicodemus and lays him bare before Him in John 3:5-10.

In John 3:5, Jesus directly references Ezekiel 36:25-27. This is what it means to be “born again”. God sprinkles you with clean water and gives you a new heart filled with The Holy Spirit of God. This is a free gift, and in no way can be earnt by what you do or who you think you are. It is a sovereign act of God that gifts you eternal life.

In this is life in the purple zone…

No prayer can save you…

It is not anything that you can do…

You will know that you have been “born again” because your whole attitude to life will change. You will see every little man-made attempt to be good and earn their way to Heaven for what it is.

You will see Heaven as already being here…

It is not something we wait for when we die…

It is here…

Ever since the birth of Jesus, Heaven was here…

Heaven is here today in the form of The Holy Spirit living inside all born again believers.
